This is an open element filter setup for the diesels. Pretty simple. It can be as fancy as you want it.
The cheapest, quickest way to do it.
Get a 45 degree, 4" exhaust elbow from Napa.
I like Napa because they are mandrel bent.
A rubber PVC pipe coupling at the lumberyard.
That is all that is required.
Remove the stock air box.
The air intake temp sensor is located in the air box.
Remove it, plug it back in and just lay in on the fenderwheel. It will work perfectly fine there.
On one truck I cut one end off the elbow and added it to the other end.
On the second truck I didn't. So depending on how fancy you want to make it, there really is no need.
I also built a mounting bracket for the filter on one truck and not the other. It seems to be fine without it.
I am not sure what there is for filters now but when I did this there were only two good choices.
Donaldson B085011
Fleetguard AH1141
Both of those filters have water proof elements. They also have the same micron rating as the factory filter.
I like the donaldson better because it is a smaller diameter filter and fits better in the space.
The Fleetguard is cheaper.
This truck has the mounting bracket. I also replaced the coupling between the elbow and the intake. The factory one will work fine.
I put silicone around the rubber coupling. Not really required but hey I wanted to be safe.

I don't even have pics of the other truck. I will have to grab some.
